For its contribution to uplifting the lives of the people in Ifugao, SN Aboitiz Power-Magat, Inc. (SNAP-Magat) received a certificate of appreciation from the provincial government during the Gotad Ad Ifugao 2012 festivities in June last week.

In celebration of its 48th foundation day, the Ifugao provincial government formally recognized SNAP-Magat’s regular payment of taxes and other fees as major contributor in development programs for the province’s communities. The ceremony was led by Ifugao Governor Eugene Balitang, House Representative Teodoro Baguilat, Jr. and Provincial Treasurer Samuel Marinay. SNAP-Magat Site Manager Assistant Vice President Wilhelmino Ferrer received the award.

SNAP-Magat owns and operates the 360-megawatt Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant located at the border of Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao. Aside from government levies, SNAP-Magat implements a voluntary Corporate Social Responsibility program that supports the host provinces, municipalities and barangays in their livelihood, education, governance, environment, public health and small infrastructure projects.

Earlier in May, SNAP-Magat also received a special award from the provincial government of Isabela for contributing to the economic development of the province. Isabela and Nueva Viscaya are also host provinces of SNAP-Magat.

SNAP-Magat is a joint venture between SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower. It took over operations of the state-owned Magat hydroelectric power plant in 2007 following a successful privatization process. The dam and other non-power components, however, remain government-owned.
